Canada Day Countdown Tenth Anniversary

Ten years ago, a group of young professionals were struck with inspiration. They crafted an ingenious idea to inspire our community’s youth to rally around something that despite – and because of – their own diverse backgrounds, united them for that which they were most passionate about: our city.
Ten years ago, our city exploded to life with an event that personifies Saint John and its innovation: taking a time-honoured tradition, and adapting it to become our own.
Ten years ago, we celebrated the first Canada Day Countdown: an outdoor festival that features world-class, award-winning musicians – all exclusively Canadian – to ring in our nation’s birth in a New Year’s Eve-style countdown.
July 1st is a date heralded around the world; celebrated not only on Canadian soil, but in most metropolitan cities across the globe. Much like how we all become Irish for a day March 17th, the world over dons their red and white to exude the spirit of our great nation. Canada’s first city’s festival boasts the most unique manner in which to celebrate our nation’s birth anywhere in the world in the form of Canada Day Countdown.
Each year, the festival has continued to exceed expectations, featuring rising stars from across our home and native land to take the Market Square Boardwalk Stage June 30th and ignite the waterfront with the cheers of tens of thousands.
This year, in addition to a roster that ranges from local favourites to artists with international accolades, includes the annual Stiletto Stampede, Night Market of local artisans, Gourmet BBQ, mechanical bull ride, and the wildly popular Beergarden that kicks off as we approach twilight. When the clock strikes midnight, a pyrotechnics show will light the sky unlike anything our region has witnessed, and the revelry, which begins at 2pm, will continue into the wee hours.

In addition to key community partners whose support allows for this Countdown to be offered free of charge, the anniversary welcomes the founding organization, FUSION, to reunite with the event and celebrate its own tenth anniversary. The shared passions and goals of these elements truly speaks to the idea of collaboration that is vital for our community to flourish.
Get the inside scoop via In addition to the website, this will be the online source for announcement, lineup, schedule, and details on the full twelve days of festivities to celebrate our nation’s birth. From the Taste of Summer kickoff June 20th until our Fireworks Grand Finale and After-Party, the Arts&Culture of our region boast the finest in activities and entertainment to usher in the summer season.
Ten years ago, we began a tradition that has helped shape our community and its culture.  Join us for the milestone celebration of the event this year, and remember what it is to be proud to be Canadian.
