Dancing Bodies: In Livng Memory

Dancing Bodies PosterThe Port City Dance Academy and Felicta present : Dancing Bodies: In Living Memory; tomorrow evening, 7 PM, at Saint John High School.

You may wonder why I would post a youth ballet production in an alternative arts site. I have first hand experience understanding that the Port City Dance Academy is far from pedestrian. They have managed to strike the perfect balance between excellence and accessibility. Their doors are open to students from tot to adult, at all levels, while still demanding the best.

The school offers a range of classes in ballet, modern dance, conditioning, bellyfit, and a very special class you’ve no doubt read about, “Dancing With Parkinson’s”. Together, Andrea Scott and Georgia Rondos blend traditional discipline with the creativity and quirkiness contemporary dance allows. They never shirk artistic freedom in their own works and encourage their students to do the same.

Highlights will include a performance of In Paradesum from Faure’s Requiem, a collaboration between PCDA’s performing ensemble Felicita and the lovely women’s choir, Cantabile. I’m personally also looking forward to Georgia Rondos’s new work “Fly”, whose early stages I had the pleasure of working out in class last year.

These performances are lovingly dedicated to Fred Ross, esteemed artist and dear friend, with proceeds support Foundation Glycosylation.
