Halifax Comedians Picnicface perform at A Khord June 6

-by Chuck Teed [05/05/08]

Saint John comedy fans are in for a treat when rising stars Picnicface perform at A Khord June 6.

A consistent sell out on the Nova Scotia comedy circuit and one of the marquee attractions at last year’s Toronto Fringe Festival, the Halifax-based comedy troupe will bring their popular Best of Show to the Port City for the very first time. A multimedia event, the evening will feature live sketches, improvisation, and some of the best comedy shorts Saint John has even seen.

Picnicface has garnered an international following thanks to their hilarious online videos, including Lawyers, Near Death Experiences, and the Best of YouTube Award nominated Powerthirst. The videos have received millions of hits worldwide, garnering endorsements from the New York Times, The Guardian UK and funnyman Will Ferrell, who proclaimed, “Picnicface just cranks out the goods” on his website www.funnyordie.com.

Saint John’s own Improvisation Corporation will also perform at the show.

Tickets for the event are 8 dollars in advance and 10 dollars at the door, which opens at 6PM (show starts at 8PM). Advance tickets can be purchased at A Khord and Backstreet Records starting May 9, or by contacting Chuck Teed at info@bbqrecords.net. Seating is limited.

Larlee Creek Hullabaloo

-by josh [30/04/08]

On August 23, 2008 the rolling hills of the St. John River Valley in Northwestern New Brunswick will come alive as the inaugural Larlee Creek Hullabaloo brings music, fun and dance to all who attend. The Larlee Creek Hullabaloo is not only fun to say but it is also the hottest new music festival on the summer music scene. The Hullabaloo will be held on the festival grounds adjacent to Baird’s Camp Ground in beautiful Perth-Andover, New Brunswick.

An eclectic mix of the finest in Maritime musicians provide The Larlee Creek Hullabaloo audience with individual performances and group presentations. The group presentations are themed performances where we bring artists from different groups together to share in a spontaneous and often electric performance.

The highlight of the day is the grand finale, or as we like to call it, the Big Hullabaloo, where all the artists come together on main stage for a massive jam that promises to be full of surprises with plenty of “take home” moments.

Final negotiations are still ongoing for our line-up but confirmed artists to date are sure to have any music lover declare this a must-see event of the summer:

  • Matt Anderson
  • Ross Neilson
  • The Hupman Brothers
  • Jens Jeppesen
  • The MacDougall Sistas
  • Ashleigh Bernard

Act now to take advantage of the early bird ticket price of $35.

For ticket information contact Heidi at 273-5272

Best of Saint John Music Poll Awards - The Article

    -by Chuck Teed [28/04/08]

Giraffecycle’s first annual Best of Saint
John Music Poll was a great success, with plenty of music fans from around the region (and beyond) voting for their favourite
Saint John artists. Those lucky enough to attend the Awards Show April 25 got the scoop on our wonderful winners, but they didn’t get a whole lot of detail (awards show hosts should never drink before getting on stage). To make up for this, I present to you write ups on each of the winners, along with the names the second place finishers in each category. Enjoy!
