Five of the East Coast's best metal bands are planning to whip the ECMAs into a frenzy next weekend, but you'll get a chance to see them here first. Black Moor, The Motorleague, We, The Undersigned, Shelter With Thieves and Uncooperative Death hit the Sunstar Stage Saturday night, so get down there and show your support. Tickets are only eight dollars, and are available at the door.

Third Annual Best Of Saint John Music Poll Now Open!

Hello fellow Giraffecyclers! Please take a pause from posting and fill out the THIRD ANNUAL Best of Saint John Music Readers Poll.

From now until April 15 you will be able to vote in up to 15 categories (you must fill out at least 7 categories for the ballot to count). Once polls close, we will tabulate the votes and announce the nominees in each category. The winner will be announced at a FREE SHOW at The Blue Olive May 14.

A couple of things to bear in mind when filling out ballots:

- We�re looking for local answers. Lady Gaga might be on The Wave all the time, but that doesn�t make her a local artist. Saint John and surrounding areas, please.

- No ballot stuffing. We can tell, and we will make fun of you.

- Don�t take this too seriously. This is about having a little fun, and celebrating our wonderful music community.

Music Review - The Telecasts - Time Spent Lost

Let�s start with the bad news. At 15 tracks and 63 minutes, The Telecast�s first full length album Time Spent Lost is a lot to digest in one sitting. Sure, artists can squeeze over an hour of music onto one disc � nearly eighty minutes worth of music if they�re feeling especially ambitious � but sometimes it�s preferable to hit people hard with the best material and leave them wanting more.

After reading a few responses, I was inspired to dig through my collection of locals discs (over 300 and counting) in the hopes of coming up with a solid list of contenders. The following list is the result of dozens of hours in front of the computer, listening to nothing but local music.

The Hardest Feeling Band in Showbiz Returns!

Attention swingers, lovers, cool cats, rebels, guys, dolls and wallflowers!

Get yourselves primed for Saint Valentine in style by heading to Peppers to count down to V-Day with some martinis and smooth, cool sounds for lovers, performed as only Adam Mowery and Penny Blacks could!

It's no secret that Blacks and Mowery are hot commodities, especially during the season of lovers. This powerhouse duo of charm, talent and - let's face it - just pure, good old-fashioned showmanship are in high demand everywhere from the Hamptons to the Vegas Strip. But they turned down every offer, every plea, every court-enforced dictum in order to return to the glittering diamond tip of New Brunswick's industrial drill press, Saint John.

"We�ve got a soft spot for this town," says Mowery. "We had such a gas here last year that we had to cajole the band into making the trip once more. It took some doing, but we finally tracked them down at their current address: the Motel 6 off I-95 in Saugus, Mass. Then all we had to do was assure them that the complimentary continental breakfast provided in Saint John included unlimited refills on coffee. Plus, you just don't turn down offers in the double digits. I mean, come on � none of us are made of stone."

Last year�s event was such a rousing success, in fact, that this year the show had to be moved to the much larger and exceedingly opulent Showroom at Peppers . Taking full advantage of the increased room to cut a rug, Blacks and Mowery were indeed fortunate to reconnect with their all-star band, the legendary Hard Feelings.

"These cats are in the groove, baby. We're talking about some of the most road-worn, musically promiscuous, legendary tappers and twitchers that have ever trod the boards, man!" Blacks assures. "There ain't nobody these charlies ain't backed up, and they got the chops to show for it. We were just rehearsing the other night, and I turned to Adam and I said � no word of a lie � 'this is really starting to sound like a seven-dollar show!'�

The evening will kick off with a set of heart-bustin' croonin' by Mr. Penny Blacks, followed by a swoon-inducing performance by Mr. Adam Mowery. At this point, you might think that you have gotten your money's worth already. But no, the entertainment doesn't stop there!

Mr. Blacks and Mowery will cap the evening with a final return to the stage TOGETHER, for a show-stopping set of "Covers for Lovers", backed by the legendary HARD FEELINGS!

It's a Rat Pack/Vegas theme, so don't be afraid to put on that jacket and tie, or that sassy little cocktail dress!

The event takes place at Peppers Pub, 1 Market Square, on Saturday, February 13.
