I know it will not sound super shit hot (Mic directly into Creative Live Value sound card) but its a start. We are planning on using Adobe Audition. Do you guys have any other suggestions, tips, etc? And no, a proper mixer and any other equipment is not in the picture unfortunately unless you guys want to donate time or equipment (or money). |

Need Tips, Software Suggestions, etc. until you said what you were using and that you didn't want to spend much/any money i was going to suggest getting your hands on the new onyx line of mixers from mackie with the firewire and hooking that up to a mac or pc with firewire. http://www.mackie.com/products/mixers/index.html |

Make sure you uninstall any currently installed sound drivers before you install the kX drivers. This will at least give you better latency. I've never used Adobe Audition before, so I can't comment on it. It's not like your recording application is going to matter with your hardware setup though (mic direct into sound card). It's hard to make any recommendations when we have no idea what you're recording. |

If Adobe Audition doesn't have the feature already, you're desperately going to need a form of EQ. So if Audition can't eq tracks, find a VST or DirectX plugin (whatever audition takes). You're also probably going to have to compress your vocal track(s). Don't normalize any tracks because you're just going to amplify noise/hiss that way. Something else that will help you bring life into your tracks (which they'll most likely need due to your recording method) is a sonic maximizer or aural exciter. I'd recommend Cakewalk BBE Sonic Maximixer and/or Waves L1 or L2 Ultramaximizer. What microphone(s) are you using? |

Need Tips, Software Suggestions, etc. Josh is onto something, if you're using crappy mics, that's the first place you should upgrade. If your mics arent up to snuff there's a limit to what any DSP can do to clean the signal up. Garbage in, garbage out and all that. |

Need Tips, Software Suggestions, etc. a few things you can do to clean up your sound is first of all, guitars, accoustic or dirty, mic your amp, do two separate tracks with slightly different amp settings, if its accoustic tinker with one to make one differnt from the other, then hard pan the two tracks to each speaker, it makes it sound fuller, then open up your EQ and roll off everything under 80-90 Hz on guitar, that will give some room for bass, record the bass straight from the headphone jack, as far as drums go, i personally wouldnt bother at all with live drums if you have that bad of a setup, i would use a program such as fruityloops or acid pro and sequence the drumbeat. keyboards are always directo input no matter what kind of setup it is.... anyways I hope that helped a little bit, and tinkering with the ESP effects built in with audition doesnt help either, i have that program and its pretty decent |

Need Tips, Software Suggestions, etc. also for software, I (ahem) got a copy of Wavelab and that program in incredible for mixing individual tracks, although I dont even know how to use the full features, very in depth program, Audition is Good for multitracking, you should be fine with that... If you want more for effects, try getting a few VST and Directx plugins, although the built-in stuff works pretty decently |
