Hopefully people will downlaod these sets and give them a lsiten. There are a ton of great songs in here. Many (Julian Cope, XTC, etc.) I just discovered my self not long ago. |

The thing is, the College Rock genre was one that played many types of styles. Basically anything that didn't get played on mainstream radio (punk, new wave, post-punk, indie rock, etc.) Surprisingly though the mix works pretty good. |

It looks to me like you did a pretty good job. Four or five songs on your list did well enough on commercial radio that we probably wouldn't have bothered with them. In their place, I might have substituted The Fall, Mission Of Burma, Wire, That Petrol Emotion... Also: back then, as now, we had had CanCon regulations in this country. So any local station would have had way way more Canadian performers than your list would suggest. I'm thinking of The Nils, Doughboys, Slow, Deja Voodoo, I'd write down more but I'm getting senile. |

I might be doing another set like this, but basically just Canadian content on college/alternative stations in 80's to 90's. Also, if you check on some of the more prominent alternative radio stations of the day, you will see they played some big hits (i.e. REM's Stand, Tracy Chapman's Fast Car, Til Tuesday, etc.) along side of the imports and more obscure hits. I made concious decsion to leave off Wire, Mission of Burma and Joy Division as they were just outside of my scope (I was looking at 83 to 89). Anyway thanks for the input. Stay tuned for my 90's mix (again will be void of Canadian content though as I stated, Canadian content will represented in a future mix) |
