I'm very curious; and be honest.

xx% - Record Store
xx% - Download - P2P (or CD copy from Friends)
xx% - Download - Pay Site
xx% - Order Online
xx% - Promo

xx% - etc....

To be honest? Well I usually (abot 99.99% of time) download via Soulseek. If I really like the album, I will usually buy it afterwards. Also, I listen to www.woxy.com a lot as well.

15% buying at shows;
10% record stores;
75% downloading (P2P).

Do I feel guilty? Yes, very (in most cases, anyway). However, would I be able to have access to this much music without downloading? Definitely not. (Unfortunately, working at Shoppers Drug Mart does not grant me the dollar$ requisite to buy 4 or 5 CDs a week.)

40% I get from AOL's getfile program where I can get music from other people's hard drives.

20% I will buy local artist cd's or bands I know I will enjoy.

Without having the inclination or wheretofore to calculate the percentages of idiotic music consumption, I can say I pretty much have a rubber arm for music and buy something almost every time I venture into Backstreet or Bluetone, and sometimes the few times I get out to other places like Music World or Second Spin.

I also download like crazy in spurts becasue ther is no possible way I could ever afford to buy any more musc - I have a bad habit of living beyond my means, which I'm sure my bank loves.

I don't order anything online or subscribe to any service. Music on a computer is not at all worth paying for. MP3's are a necessary but beautifully convenient evil that allow me to consume as much music as I can and find things I would never ever find in stores - old psyche singles, etc. MP3's cut out certain frequencies when they are compress though, so it's not something I would really be interested in paying for. I'm no great audiophile, but I like to hold my music - to have the tangible product in my hands and larger than life.

It is very rare that I pay money for music anymore, I get almost everything from P2P. I also never, ever use CDs. I listen to music on my computer and I have an mp3 player, so I have absolutely no use for them whatsoever.

I like to have the cd, I mean its the complete project of the artist, the song alone is not the whole picture I feel oftentimes. (not that I am saying it can't stand alone, but when I really like an artist I want to know the full spectrum of their work) SO I mostly buy at Bluetone, Backstreet and CDPlus(in Hali cause Fabian works there and he's my favorite)-90% I have ordered from Amazon also but only like 10%, I like how they make pretty great suggestions for new things to check out)I don't download for many reasons.

people burn me lots of cd's. and lots of my music comes from soulseek. generally, i am suspicious of new music, but from time to time i hear something new and enjoy it a lot.
i buy about 1 cd or record every six months, usually at backstreet or amazon.com or at some random distro or label online. that's it.

5% from shows/record stores

Years ago, I had a massive music collection comprised of records, CD's a tapes and reels. But over about 2 years, almost all of it was stolen, or lost. Except the reels oddly enough. So I quit buying CD's because it wasn't worth me spending $30 (post-Napster) on a CD for someone to steal. But over the last 9 months or so, I've been going and buying up all my favourite albums to help the artists that make it possible.

i almost forgot. i get almost all of my music live. despite the huge focus i have on school and the rising cost of gas, i still go to a hell of a lot of shows. much less than i used to, but still a lot. i've probably seen around 1000 bands live.

i get most of my music from the merch table at a live show, backstreet, or i order it straight from the band's website/record label. i will always get vinyl if there is an option - i hate cds and treat them like crap. also, like most of you, i don't often have the money to buy a lot of music, but i feel like i show my support in other ways (such as paying for live shows/etc). i don't download much (i used to tho)...maybe 20% of my music or less...but i do get friends to burn me cds. not cool but...considering i wouldn't be getting it anyway (lack of cash) i don't see the harm...

Fluctuating %-Directly from artists whenever possible
Remaining %-Support Independent Artists,Labels&Dealers
Focus on school+concern over the rising cost of gas= buy a smart car,the educated choice(think of it as the mini-mac of the automobile world)
Concern over the price and availability of high grade medical marijuana=support independent dealers you can trust to pass the savings on to you(see me for details)
Everybody likes to get paid+nobody seems to like to pay for anything=death to independent business

I buy about 4 or 5 cd's a week.
It's alot of money but I am addicted and I enjoy listening to the real CD over a burnt copy, for many reasons.

10% borrowing/ripping from friends
5% downloading

I love albums. I love looking at them, and holding them, and loving them, and, well you get the idea. I also love my itunes library of all my albums, and that they are all on my ipod. Basically if someone recommends something to me, I'll download some, and if I like it, I buy the album. I order the odd thing online if it's not easily gotten from a local store, but mostly I buy from non-chain record stores (the prices are always better than HMV and places like that!) or over the merch table at a show.

I used to buy cd's/vinyls compulsively when I was employed (many times I'd buy new ones before I had even listened to ones I'd just bought). Unfortunately, with lack of employment comes lack of money, and with lack of money comes no cd's :(

"I like to hold my music - to have the tangible product in my hands and larger than life."

Amen Jud. I don't think I'll ever be able to make the digital music leap and buy mp3's. I am too much a fan of "the album" as a medium. Mind you, online albums can be just as artistic, but these itunes feeding troughs of music based entirely around the premise of 99 cent singles meant to exist on their own, not for me. It's the difference between buying a single page with a poem on it, or buying a book of poetry with illustrations and a foreward by the author. You get a sense of direction and theme that is overwhelming. I am not saying I don't like single songs, I just couldn't do away with the album as a medium. Especially when many good albums are MEANT to exist as a synergy of smaller works, much like a classical "song cycle".
